Do you ever feel like you have knots or maybe even chains tied around your heart?
Was your heart broken? Were you stabbed in the back? Are you trying to protect yourself from being hurt again?
What is that protection doing for you? Is it helping you? Or is it strangling your heart? The more you try to protect, the tighter those knots become, right? Are those knots getting squeezed so tight that it feels hard to breath? Hard to eat? Hard to digest?
Is there a way out?
Yoga for the Heart.
I’ve been there. I had my heart stabbed and broken. I felt stuck in chains, tangled in knots, and isolated from desperately protecting myself. And now I know love, compassion, joy, and courage.
It was through abiding with the Buddhist heart practices of loving kindness, compassion, equanimity and joy that I was able to take time to unwind the knots around my heart, feel sorrow and grief melt away, and find courage to live from a place of wholeheartedness again.

On our first date my husband, Sunny and I began talking about our love languages. He continues to joke with me “I wrote the book.” Because now we know now that if I get quality time he gets touch. We remember this, and playfully jab (since he does martial arts) at each other with this reminder as we work on being in relationship.
Why am I telling you this?
Because when working with the heart practices it’s sometimes easier to apply these practices to the ones you love. We never want pain of suffering for our loved ones, and we will do anything we can to keep them from it. So often it’s easier to feel the resonance of “May he/she be happy. May he/she be free from suffering.”
He shows me love by giving me quality time. And he shows up for me no matter my mood; sad, angry, afraid, excited, or joyful.

I began this year with the affirmation, “May I live a life of intention.” This affirmation for me has been a reminder to return to the heart. The heart of practice, and the gentle nurturing of my own precious heart to live out my heart’s deepest intentions for this life.
Therefore, this month I am whole heartedly devoting myself to “abide with” the Brahma Viharas, the Buddhist heart practices, of Loving Kindness, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity to cultivate a courageous and fearless heart.
These practices have healed my hardness or heart from having my heart broken in two, and have created a softness and spaciousness to allow my heart to be broken into once again.
It is in our nature to forget, so I return over and over again to these practices to remember the infinite capacity of the heart to hold all things, and make all things pure. I intend to remember with these practices the innate abundance, connectedness, courage and joy that abides within each of...
